The third and most well-known Blue Beetle is Jaime Reyes, whose Genesis story is told in the movie. Jaime discovers that he has the Scarab as he goes to apply for a job at Kord Industries. This antiquated artifact of extraterrestrial technology picks Jaime as its host and forms a relationship with him. This propels him into becoming a superhero by giving him a suit of armor with amazing abilities. Jaime is forced to choose between his newly acquired responsibilities and the old life he wishes he had never left as his new abilities put his family in danger and directly in the sights of Carapax, the Indestructible Man.

The Scarab is thrown to Jaime Reyes’ hometown of El Paso, Texas, by the bursting Rock of Eternity, where he discovers it in the comics. The scarab joins to Jaime’s spine while he sleeps after he finds it. In order to shield himself and his thoughts from the odd technology, Jaime will probably have to find a way to cooperate with the Scarab. But this is perhaps where the plot of the movie diverges from that of the comic book. Victoria Kord will undoubtedly be aware of the scarab and send the potent Carapax to fetch it, if we can infer anything from the cast list.

Ted Kord, the second Blue Beetle, is still a mystery, but Victoria Kord will be a significant enemy in the movie. Although the Susan Sarandon character was developed specifically for the film, she had previously appeared as Ted’s elder sister in comic books. Although we don’t yet know how she is related to Ted, it is clear that she would stop at nothing to get the Scarab back. Who knows what her genuine motivations may be, but she says she wants to “change the world with the power of the Scarab.” It will be intriguing to watch how Sarandon’s claim that she represents “the white military-industrial complex” is handled in the film.

Conrad Carapax will be present, and because we know this from the trailers, the plot will probably revolve on the wicked Kord corporation creating the technology and then delivering it to this man, only for him to exploit it improperly. It appears that Victoria will send Carapax after Jaime to get the Scarab back once he has it. At initially, Conrad is a veteran of the Guatemalan Civil War, but following tests by Kord Industries, he develops into the Indestructible Man. He obtains improved qualities as a result, including strength, toughness, and an energy whip to use against Jaime.

Also mentioned in a recent movie trailer was OMAC. A fictitious sort of cyborg called OMAC appeared in comic books. Its human bodies were modified into cyborgs by a nanotechnology virus. OMAC could have been formed by attempting to mimic the Blue Beetle, given the parallels between what it does to Jaime Reyes and what the Blue Beetle scarab accomplishes. Back in 2009, George Miller’s canceled Justice League Mortals movie had OMACs as its antagonists.

The new DCU’s location for Blue Beetle is peculiar. Despite recent remarks by DC Studios President James Gunn and Peter Safran implying otherwise, it was initially meant to be a part of the DC Extended Universe. It will also be the first movie directed by James Gunn and Peter Safran in the new DC Universe. If the film is successful, it should be possible to quickly include it into their new DCU plans.
