Due to his role in defending the world from Thanos (Josh Brolin) and the publication of his memoirs in the present, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) aka Ant-Man has gained some notoriety. The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) and Scott are in a happy relationship, although Scott still feels bad about the time he missed being with Cassie (Kathryn Newton) when he was in jail and ensnared in the Quantum Realm. Cassie, who is now a teenager, has turned into a political activist who wants to assist those who were uprooted by the Blip, Thanos’ five-year-long temporary erasure from existence. Scott is upset that Cassie’s actions resulted in her being detained.
Cassie, however, possesses a sharp mind as well. Cassie informs everyone that she has developed a gadget that can make contact with the Quantum Realm when visiting Hope’s parents, Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet. There are no living things Cassie is aware of in the Quantum Realm. Janet instantly attempts to shut off the machine after realizing that this would aid Kang in escaping, but the message has already been received, and a gateway opens, sucking all five of them into the Quantum Realm. A gang of local rebels against an authoritarian leader discover Scott and Cassie. When Hank, Hope, and Janet arrive in a large metropolis, they ask for help in locating their friends and a route home.
Lord Krylar (Bill Murray), a past romantic interest of Janet’s while she resided in the Quantum Realm, is shown to Hank, Hope, and Janet. Janet is informed by Krylar that Kang is the Quantum Realm’s current harsh dictator, and he makes an effort to imprison Janet and her friends on his behalf. By using their fighting skills, Hank, Hope, and Janet escape from jail and take one of Krylar’s ships. Cassie and Scott are informed by the rebel commander Jentorra (Katy O’Brian) that Janet’s association with Kang was a contributing factor in Kang’s eventual conquest of the Quantum Realm. Soon after, M.O.D.O.K., a Kang enforcer, attacks the rebel camp.
[Corey Stoll]. It is revealed that M.O.D.O.K. is a mutant version of Darren Cross, who miraculously lived after his confrontation with Ant-Man in the first movie. It is revealed by M.O.D.O.K. that he was the one who discovered Cassie’s texts. Cassie and Scott are taken prisoner by M.O.D.O.K., who then returns them to Kang’s stronghold. Janet also admits that she had a relationship with Kang during her protracted exile in the Quantum Realm.
Hank and Hope are informed by Janet that she assisted Kang in rebuilding his multiversal power core but, upon learning of Kang’s wicked nature, utilized her Pym Particles to grow the core beyond its practical limits. Janet tells her family that Kang confessed to her that other versions of him had banished him to the Quantum Realm out of dread for what he would do. She admits that with Kang’s help, he was able to restore part of his powers and seize control of the Quantum Realm.
In a scene at the middle of the credits, Jonathan Majors’ cast of Kang variations gather in an arena to organize a multiversal insurrection. Immortus, the leader, declares that those accountable for Kang’s demise shall pay. Another Kang version, Victor Timely (Jonathan Majors), starts to demonstrate an experiment he has constructed to a throng of people on Earth in 1901 in a post-credits sequence. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Mobius M. Mobius from the Time Variance Authority (T.V.A.) are among the crowd. Loki is anxious to see Timely.
